West Ham United: Said Benrahma hits out at David Moyes after scoring winner for Lyon

By Jessica Elliot

After scoring a match-winning goal for Lyon, West Ham United loanee Said Benrahma appears to have taken a dig at David Moyes.

Despite a slow start to life at Lyon, Benrahma seems to be enjoying his time in France and hints at some tension between himself and West Ham.

Speaking to Amazon Prime France (23 February), as transcribed by Sport Witness, he said: “It’s a goal that will give me a lot of confidence. Already, after the goal, I felt a lot better, I dared more, and I had more freedom.

“It’s worth continuing like this, I have a team who trusts me, I have a coach who trusts me, the entire club trusts me, and I try to go into the field.”

Benrahma to be shown the door?

Benrahma never managed to reach his potential in East London and that is clear to see.

The forward has not performed well during his time at the Hammers, with David Moyes never managing to get the best out of him due to his managerial style. Since arriving at Lyon, it appears that he is finally finding form now that he is playing under a different system.

At West Ham, he was being asked to play in a more structured team and that rendered him useless. He is a creative player but that wasn’t being brought out at London Stadium.

David Moyes has had a mixed season at West Ham

He wasn’t fond of the training sessions in England either, taking a shot at the manager in an interview with Lyon club media (9 February): “Training went very well, we worked hard, but we worked in a very good mood and in a good atmosphere. It’s been a long time since I trained with the intensity of training”

It seems unlikely that Benrahma will be a West Ham player next season, as whatever relationship he had with Moyes and the club is long gone.

The forward will likely leave permanently in the summer as he attempts to get his career back on track. The question that remains is which club will secure his signature?
