West Ham United sack Julen Lopetegui, replacement named

West Ham United have sacked Julen Lopetegui, according to talkSPORT.

The radio broadcaster reported via their website on 6 January that the Irons have decided to part ways with the Spaniard after the 4-1 loss against Manchester City on Saturday (4 January).

Graham Potter is expected to be named as Lopetegui’s replacement, with talks over a deal underway.

The former Chelsea manager is happy to take the reins at the London Stadium until the end of the season, but the length of the agreement remains to be seen.

Graham Potter to replace Julen Lopetegui at West Ham

West Ham hoped Lopetegui would take them to greater heights when they hired him as David Moyes’ replacement in the summer.

The Hammers even allowed the former Sevilla boss to spend over £100million on new signings in the summer transfer window.

However, the plan backfired as the Spanish tactician failed to implement an attractive playing style at the London Stadium as the hierarchy wished.

Not only did he fail to improve the playing style on display in East London, but also made the Irons a relegation-battling side.

The David Sullivan-owned club are currently placed 14th in the Premier League after 20 games, sitting just seven points above the relegation zone.

Sullivan will be hopeful that Potter can quickly turn things around at West Ham once he is confirmed as the new head coach.

In other West Ham news, a transfer exit is already on the cards at the London Stadium with talks over a deal progressing.
