West Ham United: Report shares if Jarrod Bowen to start for England vs Brazil
West Ham United winger Jarrod Bowen is set to start on the bench for England in their friendly with Brazil on Saturday night.
The Hammers forward earned his place in Gareth Southgate’s squad after some excellent performances this season, with Paul Merson calling for Bowen to get an opportunity to fight for his place on the plane.
But the ace will have to wait for his opportunity according to a report by the Daily Mail (23 March), with the expectation that he will start on the bench as Phil Foden and Anthony Gordon look set to start at Wembley.
Waste of time for Jarrod Bowen and Gareth Southgate
Southgate made some big calls to bring up the likes of Bowen, Anthony Gordon, Kobbie Mainoo and Ivan Toney into this squad with the media and fans calling for some new faces.
It seems quite clear that the attacking area of the pitch is where England are strongest with the likes of Harry Kane, Ollie Watkins, Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden having outstanding campaigns, while players like Marcus Rashford, Jack Grealish and others waiting in the wings.
But clearly the manager needs more options than just in case of injuries, and he needs to test these players against the best opposition in order to find out what they’re capable of.

Bowen has had opportunities in the past that he hasn’t taken, but this is arguably the best form he has been in throughout his career and he deserves a chance to stake his claim.
If he isn’t going to play in friendlies when key players are missing due to injury then Southgate clearly doesn’t trust him, and this whole thing is just a waste of time.
In other West Ham news, the club want to sign this £17.1m rated striker in the summer.
