West Ham United relegation prediction made by supercomputer after Arsenal loss

West Ham United are predicted to finish 14th in the Premier League this season after the 5-2 loss against Arsenal, according to The Opta Analyst.

The Hammers welcomed Arsenal to the London Stadium on Saturday [30 November], conceding five goals and pulling back two consolation goals courtesy of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Emerson, all in the opening 45 minutes.

Despite the embarrassing defeat, West Ham are still expected to survive relegation relatively comfortably this term with a 14th-place finish, which is the most likely outcome as per the supercomputer.

The Irons have a 1.1 per cent chance of facing the drop this year and still have a slim hope of European qualification, with a 4.4 per cent chance of finishing inside the top seven spots.

West Ham United set for a null and void season under Julen Lopetegui

Julen Lopetegui may have spared his blushes at West Ham until the New Year after the 2-0 win against Newcastle United, but the Spaniard was brought back to Earth with a brutal humbling in East London.

It is always a case of one step forward and two steps back with Lopetegui.

While a loss against Arsenal is hardly the most damning recognition of his abilities, due to his horrendous displays against the lower sides, he finds himself in a position where he must overcome the Premier League elite to earn some good faith with the supporters.

The East London outfit conceded five goals in the first half on Saturday (30 November), which is absolutely abhorrent for a side of this stature, regardless of the opposition.

Lopetegui made it far too easy for Arsenal to walk through his West Ham side, a recurring theme at the London Stadium this term, and with each passing match, it appears the under-fire boss is running out of ideas to rejuvenate his squad.

Wan-Bissaka was the only player in claret and blue who could leave the match with his head held high after scoring in consecutive appearances for the Irons and drawing comparisons to Liverpool star Mohamed Salah.

However, with a less than five per cent chance of securing a most-coveted return to European football and a slimmer chance of relegation, the Hammers are set to linger in mid-table obscurity for the entirety of the campaign and merely occupy a space in the top flight without any noticeable impact.
