West Ham United ready to offer high salary to Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas
West Ham have joined the race to sign Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas this summer.
According to La Repubblica (transfer live blog, 15 August, 15:04), Navas has received strong interest from the Hammers.
The Spanish goalkeeper is not the first team plans of Christophe Galtier this season, and he could be offloaded.
Napoli are also interested in signing him, but the Hammers are looking to tempt him with a high-wage package.
Navas is an experienced goalkeeper but is he needed right now?
West Ham have signed Alphonse Areola this summer on a permanent deal and he is expected to challenge Lukasz Fabianski for the first-choice role at the club.
Adding another goalkeeper doesn’t make sense, especially when the club need to add depth elsewhere.
Having said that this could be the last season for Fabianski at the club, and the Hammers may need to find his replacement, at some point.
Is Moyes already thinking about keeping Navas as a back-up option?
At 35, Navas could be tempted to move to the Premier League if he is offered a better pay package. Napoli can offer him Champions League football, and that could be a big factor for Navas in deciding on his next club.
Anything can happen in the transfer window, but West Ham must focus on getting their other targets at the earliest.
