West Ham United: Ray Parlour and Dean Saunders share ‘brilliant’ David Moyes sack verdict

West Ham United manager David Moyes deserves more credit for helping the Hammers qualify for a third consecutive European quarter-final, according to Dean Saunders.

The Irons booked their place in the next round of the Europa League with a 5-0 thrashing of Freiburg on Thursday (14 March) to beat the Bundesliga side 5-1 on aggregate and ease the pressure on Moyes from supporters.

While Ray Parlour has admitted that he remains unconvinced whether the Scotsman will be in charge come the start of next season, Saunders has heaped praise on the Irons boss for finding a “winning formula” at the London Stadium.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Friday (15 March, 6:40) he said: “David Moyes gets some stick, doesn’t he? Isn’t that three consecutive quarter-finals he’s got them to in Europe?

“I think every manager will tell you it’s the winning formula they’re looking for, not so much the winning style. David Moyes has got a winning formula.”

Parlur agreed saying: “I think he’s been brilliant. West Ham are trying to go a different way, whether he’ll be there next season, we’ll have to wait and see but I think it’s his style of football. They want to play a bit more football and they’ve been weird this season because they got hammered against Arsenal.”

Will West Ham United hand David Moyes a new contract at the London Stadium?

As Parlour suggested, Moyes’ biggest issue this season has been the lack of consistency at the London Stadium as the Scotsman has been unable to produce consecutive attacking displays week in and week out.

When it’s good, as it was against Freiburg on Thursday, it’s really good. But when it’s bad, as it was against Arsenal, the Irons look lost in the Premier League and nowhere near the standard required to qualify for European football.

David Moyes has found himself under increasing pressure at West Ham United.

Behind-the-scenes appointments at the London Stadium have suggested that Moyes is moving closer to signing on the dotted line at West Ham, but sources have insisted that nothing will be decided until the end of the campaign.

Supporters will just have to wait and see what will happen come the end of the season, but until then, pundits and fans will be hoping they see more attacking displays from the Scotsman’s team as they did against Freiburg.
