West Ham United raise their offer for Fiorentina centre-back Nikola Milenkovic
West Ham United have raised their pressure and offer for Fiorentina centre-back Nikola Milenkovic, according to TuttoSport.
Juventus and Sevilla are also keen on the Serbian, and much will depend on the next ten days as the trio looks to get a deal for the 23-year-old done.
Milenkovic wants to leave the Italian outfit this term, and while West Ham are looking to swoop, Juve have plans to firm up their interest should Fiorentina fail to sell him abroad before the middle of the month.
Time to act fast
Juventus joining the race for the signature of the Serbian international is not good news for West Ham.
They are the biggest club in Italy despite losing the title to Inter Milan last season, and most players in the Serie A are often attracted to them.
Milenkovic is not guaranteed a starting berth at Turin due to the presence of Italian international duo Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini, and that could give us a realistic chance of landing him ahead of them.
Often, players do not want to play a bit-part role in a season leading to a major tournament like the World Cup, and the Serbian would most likely walk straight into David Moyes’ starting XI if we do manage to steal a march on other rivals.
There are just three weeks left in the summer transfer window, and we should not hesitate to get deals done within the next two weeks in order to avoid the mad rush that comes with the last week of the window.
West Ham badly need to get a quality centre-back, and Milenkovic is perfect for us.
Whether he feels the same way remains to be seen, though, and we have to admit that Juventus are a huge threat to our chances.
