West Ham United pursuit to hire Julen Lopetegui takes fresh twist
West Ham are offering Julen Lopetegui more in terms of wages in comparison to AC Milan, according to Matteo Moretto.
The SOS Fanta journalist claims that despite this, the former Real Madrid and Sevilla manager fancies a move to San Siro.
Manchester United and Bayer Leverkusen have also explored the possibility of hiring the Spaniard.
Via Twitter, Moretto wrote: “Milan is focusing on Julen Lopetegui for the post-Stefano Pioli team.
“The latest contacts between the parties have been very positive. The Spanish coach generates unanimous consensus within the Rossoneri board, bringing together both Cardinale and Ibrahimović and the technical area.
“Lopetegui gives priority to Milan and is ready to refuse the pressure of West Ham who offers him a much higher salary than the Rossoneri club.
“Other clubs such as Manchester United and Bayer Leverkusen have explored the profile in recent months.
“Milan-Lopetegui are in total harmony regarding the objectives and value of the squad, already considered to have won the Scudetto.”
West Ham United now unlikely to hire Julen Lopetegui
Lopetegui’s choice reflects a broader trend in football where financial incentives are not always the deciding factor for managers and players.
This scenario highlights that factors such as the prestige of the club, the project offered by the club, the squad’s quality and the potential for immediate success can often outweigh the financial aspect.
Lopetegui’s decision to prioritise AC Milan over the Hammers indicates a clear preference for the Italian club’s project and vision.
This preference might be due to Milan’s history, the opportunity to manage in the prestigious Serie A, and the chance to work with a squad that has already proven its quality by winning the Scudetto.
In contrast, West Ham, despite offering a higher salary, seem to be less appealing to Lopetegui.
This could be due to the club’s current standing in the Premier League, the uncertainty surrounding the squad’s composition and the project’s direction.
The fact that Manchester United and Bayer Leverkusen also explored the possibility of hiring Lopetegui suggests that his choice is not merely a matter of financial compensation but a strategic career move.
In other West Ham news, the club have been handed a major boost in appointing David Moyes’ replacement as a manager has made his future intentions clear.
