West Ham United pull out of Emmanuel Dennis race over his character

West Ham United are no longer pursuing a deal to sign Watford striker Emmanuel Dennis, according to Alex Crook via Give Me Sport.

The 24-year-old had long been a target for the Irons as they searched far and wide for a new attacker before eventually settling on Gianluca Scamacca from Sassuolo.

They are still in the window for a new winger though and Dennis can play out wide but Crook believes they have stopped their attempts to sign the Nigerian international.

Despite scoring 10 goals for the Hornets in their relegation campaign last term, Dennis’ character has been brought into question by the West Ham recruitment team.

“Now they’ve got Scamacca, I wonder if they’ve done some background checks on him because, from what I’m told, maybe he’s not necessarily the type of character that David Moyes wants to bring into the dressing room,” he said.

Stay away

If there is even a whisper that a potential new signing is a bit of a bad egg in the dressing room, then West Ham should stay extremely far away from making any kind of move.

It only takes one disruptive individual to completely derail an entire dressing room and that is the last thing Moyes can afford to happen right now as he looks to get the new campaign off to a great start.

Scamacca’s arrival also greatly reduces the immediate need to sign another striker even if they can play out wide because Michail Antonio can do just that already.

Dennis did play the entire 90 minutes for Watford as they beat Sheffield United 1-0 at Vicarage Road to kickstart their Championship campaign.

West Ham now have to prepare to head to Nottingham Forest for another tough test after being beaten by Manchester City on Sunday in their opening game of the new season.
