West Ham United players’ response wows BBC pundit after what they did in draw v Tottenham
Danny Gabbidon was impressed by the way West Ham defended in their draw against Tottenham on Tuesday (2 April).
Speaking on the BBC’s Football Daily podcast on Tuesday, the pundit said the Hammers players knew they had to come out and respond after the 4-3 defeat against Newcastle United and he felt they did just that.
While the Irons didn’t offer too much going forward, he believes they nullified the threats posed by Spurs, with 1-1 being a fair result at the London Stadium.
“This is always a big game between the clubs,” said Gabbidon. “But following the disappointment of the Newcastle game at the weekend, they knew they had to come out and respond and they did that.
“They did not offer much going forward but, from a defensive perspective, they were very good. They nullified that Tottenham team. Neither side deserved to win or lose the game in the end, so it was a fair result.”
West Ham responded well against Tottenham
There was a lot of pressure on the West Ham players heading into the game on the back of the disappointing defeat against Newcastle.
While they would have been fearing the worst when Brennan Johnson put Tottenham ahead after just five minutes, they responded well to that setback as Kurt Zouma equalised less than 15 minutes later.
It was a decent performance from the Hammers overall and David Moyes will be pleased to see his defence look much more solid.

Although it did affect how positive they were going forward, the Irons boss knows his side have to be better at the back than they have been over the past few months.
It was probably a fair result on the balance of play and one we can look to build upon as we look to ensure this is another successful season at the London Stadium.
