West Ham United player ratings v Burnley: Nayef Aguerd flops, Mohammed Kudus shines

West Ham and Burnley almost shared the spoils at Turf Moor on 25 November in the Premier League, but the visitors picked up a 2-1 victory.

Jay Rodriguez’s 49th minute penalty for the hosts ensured that the hosts picked up their first points of the season in front of their home fans.

Dara O’Shea then was credited with an own goal in the 86th minute which saw the Hammers claw their way back into the game.

West Ham

Here are our West Ham player ratings for the game:

Alphonse Areola – 6

Made a crucial save in the second half and there wasn’t much he could’ve done to prevent the concession of the opener.

Vladimir Coufal – 4

Had it been another referee or VAR, there is a chance that the decision would’ve been given against Coufal, and the Hammers player was undoubtedly lucky to not have conceded the penalty. However, throughout the game, he appeared to struggle and it was far from an impressive performance.

Kurt Zouma – 6

Had a decent afternoon there as he managed to complete close to 85 per cent of his passes and did his defensive duties to the best of his abilities. He won both his aerial duels as well and Moyes surely will have nothing to complain about from his performance.

West Ham

Nayef Aguerd – 3

A disappointing display from the Morocco international who’s struggled for consistency throughout the season for West Ham. He was awry with his passes and only five of his 18 long balls managed to find their desired targets. He even lost 50 per cent of his aerial duels and was caught out of position on a few occasions.

Emerson – 3

Failed to complete any of his long passes or crosses and while he offered a presence in the final third, nothing tangible came from it. He even lost both his aerial duels and this is a performance he’ll quickly want to forget as the rest of the team has bailed him out.

Edson Alvarez – 7

Controlled the tempo of the game exceptionally well as he misplaced just three passes throughout the 90 minutes. Had an eventful time on international duty with Mexico and he’s carried on the good run of form for his club as well.

James Ward-Prowse – 6

A relatively quiet game for the midfielder who’s been used to lively performances of late in the middle of the park for the Hammers. He was still tidy in possession and offered an immaculate presence off the ball as well – shielding the back line perfectly.

Mohammed Kudus – 9

It was always going to be a tough job replacing Jarrod Bowen and the Ghana international found that out the hard way at Turf Moor. He did not enjoy too much success with his dribbles and failed to get himself into goal-scoring positions – hugging the touchline for large parts of the game. However, right when it mattered, in the 87th minute, he managed to provide an assist for the equaliser. He then did one better and set up the winning goal as well. Some way to turn things around.

West Ham

Tomas Soucek – 7

Scored the winning goal out of nothing for West Ham and he certainly made the trip worth it for the travelling fans. He struggled to get involved in the game for most of it, but when it mattered, he was right there to secure the three points for his team.

Lucas Paqueta – 7

Won most of his ground duels and was constantly looking to make things happen in the final third. He did not hug the touchline as much as Kudus and his movement into central spaces was a real nightmare for defenders to deal with.

Danny Ings – 5

Led the line in the absence of Michail Antonio and cut a peripheral figure in the game as he failed to get too involved in proceedings. The Jamaican tends to drift out wide and bully defenders while Ings is more of a 12-yard box presence. Not ideal but he’ll learn from it.

Subs

Divin Mubama – 7

Said Benrahma – 5

In other West Ham news, a BBC pundit has admitted that he’ll come out of retirement just to play with a West Ham star after what he did recently.
