West Ham United: Phil Thompson shares new David Moyes sack verdict live on talkSPORT
West Ham United manager David Moyes should leave the London Stadium at the end of the season because of criticism from Hammers supporters, according to Phil Thompson.
The Scotsman has come under pressure from supporters in recent weeks but managed to ease some calls for his sacking with an impressive Europa League win over Freiburg and a reasonable draw with Aston Villa.
While indications behind the scenes suggest Moyes is closing in on a new deal at the London Stadium, Thompson has urged the 60-year-old to leave East London and suggested other clubs would be keen to secure his signature.
Speaking on talkSPORT on Monday (18 March, 7:44) he said: “How can we be talking like this and the guy’s job is under threat as far as the fans are concerned? If I was David Moyes, I would leave at the end of the season.
“I would leave because David’s stock is high amongst other clubs. He could get into a lot of football clubs and with West Ham, I just feel like he’s only two defeats away from them [the fans] wanting him out again.”
“I think David should just say, ‘Enough is enough, I’m off’.'”
Will David Moyes leave West Ham United this summer?
The relationship between West Ham fans and Moyes has been fractured at the best of times and there are a number of supporters who have been very keen to suggest that the Irons would be more successful with a different manager.
However, the Scotsman is arguably the Hammers’ most successful boss in recent memory and was key to winning the Europa Conference League last season. He arguably deserves more credit than he’s given for his previous work.

So much could hinge on how West Ham perform from now until the end of the season. If they qualify for Europe once again and potentially lift more silverware, fans will be content with Moyes remaining in charge, if not the pressure will mount once again.
Thompson is probably right in his suggestion that other clubs would be chomping at the bit to bring Moyes in, but that doesn’t mean that Hammers fans shouldn’t be allowed to criticise the Scotsman for poor performances.
