West Ham United: Paris Saint-German make contact to sign Nayef Aguerd as news emerges from France

Paris Saint-Germain have approached West Ham United to ask about the availability of defender Nayef Aguerd, according to L’Equipe.

The French news outlet (10 January) shared that the super-rich French giants are expanding their search for a centre-back in the January window after an injury to Milan Skriniar and Aguerd has emerged as an option.

The Athletic reported on 8 January that Aguerd is not expected to depart the London Stadium this month despite interest from Saudi Arabia and Italy but PSG have still made contact to sign him according to reports from France.

Must keep for now

The Hammers are certainly in for a busy January transfer window this month having suffered damaging injury blows to Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta and Michail Antonio while Mohammed Kudus is away at the Africa Cup of Nations.

That forces the Irons into transfer action in the next few days but David Moyes certainly won’t want to lose any of his star players this month including Aguerd.

There is no secret that West Ham United may have to sell players to buy players this month and a Paris Saint-Germain interest in the Moroccan could spice up their finances given their oil-rich status but given the club’s targets this month both domestically and in Europe, they would be desperate to seek the former Rennes defender until the summer at least.

Should he go then Wolves’ Max Kilman appears to be a solid alternative, having become a key man for Wolves in the past three seasons and possessing plenty of Premier League experience.

However, Gary O’Neil will not want to lose his star defender this month which means the Hammers aren’t guaranteed to get him in should Aguerd be sold this month. The Moroccan has not been at his best this season but still remains a crucial component for Moyes so it will be unlikely he will depart this month with everything that’s going on at the London Stadium.
