West Ham United owners send eight-word message after Graham Potter sack latest

Graham Potter’s difficult start to life as West Ham boss took another turn for the worse when the Hammers were held to a 1-1 draw on Sunday by a weakened Tottenham team.

Spurs have their minds set entirely on achieving success in the Europa League, as Ange Postecoglou fielded a much-changed side at the London Stadium.

However, Potter’s men were unable to get the better of their rivals, instead having to settle for a 1-1 draw after Jarrod Bowen’s equaliser cancelled put Wilson Odobert’s opener.

Potter has now steered West Ham to just three wins in 16 outings, which has led to questions over whether he was the right man to replace Julen Lopetegui in the dugout.

West Ham owners deliver verdict on Potter’s future

Potter has not managed the Hammers to a victory since their 2-0 triumph over Leicester City on 27 February.

While Potter’s men sit just 17th in the Premier League with only three games remaining, the London club should, perhaps, be grateful that the bottom three clubs have already suffered relegation.

But the West Ham owners have backed Potter to remain at the London Stadium amid the murmurings regarding his future from the stands.

Hammers News [5 May] quotes the owners as saying: “We still 100 per cent believe in him.”

The summer transfer window could prove pivotal for Potter

To secure a long-term future at the London Stadium, Potter must enjoy a strong start to next season to prove that he is capable of guiding the Hammers back to the Premier League’s top half.

But to have a positive start to the new campaign, the former Brighton boss must ensure that he enjoys a successful transfer window as he looks to shape his own West Ham squad.

The East London club have set their sights on the likes of Borussia Monchengladbach striker Tim Kleindienst, whose signature could bolster Potter’s forward line.

However, the Hammers could also be set to lose 15 players this summer, while Lucas Paqueta’s future remains in question as the FA hearing concerning his betting charges, which could even lead to a lifetime ban, is yet to take place.

If Potter cannot oversee a strong transfer window and continues to endure poor form at the London Stadium, he could be sacked in the early exchanges of next season.
