West Ham United out of race for Benfica star Darwin Nunez
West Ham United have not made contact with Benfica over a summer move for striker Darwin Nunez, according to reports by Claret & Hugh.
The attacking dynamo has had an excellent 2021/22 season – bagging 38 goals across all competitions for the Liga Portugal outfit.
David Moyes is reluctant to spend a large chunk of his transfer budget solely on a striker. However, he “unquestionably” would have done if the Irons had a realistic chance of bringing the Uruguayan to east London.

The Scot thought he had successfully couped the 22-year-old after the Hammers placed their £60million bid on the last day of the January window.
Despite being on the top of their list of signings, the chances of bringing him to the London Stadium have been slashed to zero.
Shame.
If these reports are true, it is a huge disappointment, especially if you consider the nature in which they missed out on Nunez.
Fabrizio Romano told the Wondergoal podcast [May 11] that the Hammers could have signed the youngster had they increased their bid by £8.5million.

In January, everybody knew about the striker but the interest is nowhere near as heavy as it currently is.
With the deal seemingly off the table – Moyes will be kicking himself that he didn’t spend the extra bit of money that could not only help the Irons in the future but could have completely changed their 2021/22 campaign as they just fell short on all fronts.
The Hammers will have to turn their attention elsewhere – if they haven’t already – to bolster their striking ranks because even if they do now make contact, it is very unlikely to see him coming to east London.
