West Ham United officially agree two-year defender contract – Done Deal

Regan Clayton has signed a new two-year deal with West Ham United, the club has confirmed.

The Hammers announced on 2 August that the 19-year-old defender has agreed a new contract with the club.

It is clear that the youngster is highly rated at the club with Academy Manager Kenny Brown full of praise for the 2023 FA Youth Cup winner.

He said: “He’s a very popular member of the group. He’s so consistent in everything he does. He’s a proper role model.

“When you look at players that thrive in their scholarship, that’s Regan. He’s a coach’s dream. He’s always ready, available, he wants to learn, and above all, he’s a good player.”

The Hammers have always had a great academy but haven’t had many success stories of youngsters breaking into the first team recently.

With Julen Lopetegui coming in as head coach, there will be a fresh opportunity for young players to impress the new boss.

It is clear that Clayton is a player who is highly rated by the club’s hierarchy in the academy set up which could stand him in good stead moving forward.

The defender has been with the Irons since he was 10 years old and is someone who has grown up through the different age groups for the club.

At 15, the Hammers youngster broke into the under-18s squad and has continued to impress at that level ever since.

With him being 19 now, there will be hope that his step up to become a regular member of the first-team squad will come in the upcoming season.
