West Ham United ‘not even close’ to making £34m Arnaut Danjuma signing

West Ham United are struggling to come to an agreement to sign Villareal winger Arnaut Danjuma this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Irons have been in negotiations with the La Liga side, that reached the Champions League knockout rounds last season, for a number of weeks butthey are no closer to finding common ground with the Spaniards.

West Ham are keen to make a deal happen on their terms but Villareal are not going to be walked over by the Premier League side which makes things increasingly difficult for David Moyes.

“Personal terms are the real issue for Danjuma deal,” Romano said via his personal Twitter account. “West Ham have been in talks with Villarreal for weeks on €40m (£34million) fee but still not even close to agreeing with Danjuma on personal terms/contract.

“West Ham want Danjuma but only at their conditions, so it’s not easy.”

Step back

There is no massive urgency to sign a winger right now with Jarrod Bowen, Said Benrahma and Nikola Vlasic all available to play out wide and already at Rush Green.

With such a large sum of money required to make this deal happen, we really need to take a step back and make a decision whether it is really worth spending that much on such a player.

West Ham

When you consider the need for players in other positions, such as striker, central midfield and left-back, we would be best pulling out of a deal to sign Danjuma for now and perhaps we can revisit negotiations towards the end of the window.

There are still two months of the transfer window left so we don’t need to rush to complete our business in the next couple of weeks.

We can afford to take our time, re-evaluate our stance and then move forward in whatever direction the club decides.
