West Ham United: Tomas Soucek shares image of horror facial injury sustained on Czech Republic duty
West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek was in the thick of the action – perhaps a little too much – as Czech Republic drew 1-1 with Poland.
Soucek was on the scoresheet early in the second half of Friday’s (17 November) Euro 2024 qualifier to cancel out Jakub Piotrowski’s opener.
The 28-year-old put his body on the line to ensure his side claimed a point, and he was involved in a nasty collision at one point.

While on the floor, Soucek was caught in the face by the boot of opposition player Jan Bednarek.
And the damage was clear to see in an image shared by Soucek the morning after the game on his personal Instagram account [18 November].

Soucek is no stranger to being in the wars, as we have seen regularly at West Ham, but this was a very nasty incident.
It was described as a “terrible blow” by iSport [17 November], with the blood dripping down the midfielder’s face.
The damage is bad, but it could have been even worse as he was caught clean on his face by Bednarek’s book.

The good news is that Soucek was all smiles in this picture, clearly unfazed by the damage.
It may well be that he has to wear a mask of some sort when the Czech Republic face Moldova on Monday (20 November).
But it does not look as though there will be any lasting damage beyond that, so Soucek should be ready to go when West Ham return to action against Burnley in a week’s time.
In other West Ham news, an axed player posted a message on social media while his side were in action.
