Rio Ferdinand calls out West Ham United fans live on TNT Sports over David Moyes treatment

Rio Ferdinand has slammed a “disrespectful” and “ridiculous” section of the West Ham fanbase who want to see David Moyes gone.

The Scotsman continues to divide opinion at London Stadium, despite guiding the club to European success last season.

Widespread reports last month suggested he has penned a new deal, but no official confirmation has yet been forthcoming.

Speaking directly down the camera live on TNT Sports [21 January] ahead of the game with Sheffield United, Ferdinand said: “I can’t believe it.

“Where are the West Ham fans? I’d like to know what you’re really expecting. What are you asking for from David Moyes?

“I’ve seen people disgruntled with David Moyes, asking should he be changed.

“They won a European competition last season, they spent £100million from the Declan Rice sale exquisitely well, and they’re sixth in the league.

“You have to be realistic sometimes. I think it’s disrespectful to even be asking about David Moyes because he’s done a fabulous job here.

“You can’t have it all. You have to understand where West Ham are as a club. In the position they’re in right now, he’s doing a fabulous job.

“To question him right now is ridiculous, especially considering where West Ham have been in at times.

“They’re in a really healthy state at the moment. You have to sit back and say ‘be careful what you wish for’.”

Fanbase split

From the outside looking in, it can seem like West Ham supporters are an entitled bunch who are never content.

Moyes ended the club’s long wait for silverware in the Europa Conference League last season – a day supporters will never forget.

The Irons are also sixth in the Premier League this season and through to the last 16 of the Europa League – no complaints there.

The issue for many fans is that Moyes’ style of play is not great, and there is a belief that this current squad could do even better than they are.

Those who believe Moyes is potentially holding the club back from taking the next step are made to look silly after each positive result.

However, the same is true for those in the opposite camp after each defeat.

Whichever side of the wall you sit, this is a debate that simply will not end while Moyes is still in charge.

Unfortunately for some, that may now be the case for another couple of seasons after this one.

In other West Ham news, an anonymous source has shared a “problem” the Irons face as two more players edge towards the exit.
