West Ham United update on Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher emerges with Brighton and Tottenham Hotspur keen

West Ham are reportedly in a three-way battle with Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.

According to the Athletic [16 June, 3pm], the Hammers and the other two clubs are now the main contenders to sign the 23-year-old.

It’s also understood that West Ham and Brighton hold the advantage over Spurs to sign the England international as they can offer him European football.

West Ham

Interesting option

If the Hammers can sign Gallagher to play as an eight and somebody to play the Declan Rice role, a midfield trio with Lucas Paqueta will make sense.

Paqueta is technical, the Rice replacement will ideally be a good ball carrier and ball winner and Gallagher can provide the legs from one box to another.

He did exceptionally well in the Premier League for West Brom and Crystal Palace and it’s hard to judge a player at Chelsea given how chaotic the club is.

West Ham

The squad is bloated and too many players are given a chance rather than the manager settling on an established playing eleven.

Brighton usually do not miss with their signings and the fact that they’re interested in him too should be a sign that West Ham are targeting the right players.

It remains to be seen how much he’ll cost as they’ve got certain big-money targets as well who they would want to bring in.
