West Ham United: Journalist ‘baffled’ by latest David Moyes talk
Journalist Dan Silver is “baffled by the obsession” surrounding the future of David Moyes as West Ham manager.
The Sun reported on Friday (29 December) that Moyes is set to sign a new contract at London Stadium that will run through until June 2026.
Should that prove the case, it will end months of speculation regarding whether the Scotsman will stay on beyond the end of the current campaign.
Former Mirror reporter Silver posted on his personal Twitter page [30 December]: “Baffled by the obsession with Moyes’ contract.
“Those demanding a new deal after a good run of games are as reductive as those demanding he be sacked after a bad one.
“IMO conversation needs to be about a long-term development plan for the club, not its current manager.”
Quick reminder
It seems that even if Moyes puts pen to paper on a long-term deal – and two-and-a-half years can be considered long-term – this debate will not end any time soon.
With every defeat, sections of the fanbase will call for the 60-year-old to be sacked. With every win, the other section of the fanbase will be quick to say “told you so”.
Ultimately, though, this is the correct call from the club. Moyes delivered West Ham their first trophy in 43 years and has enjoyed a more-than-decent campaign this time around.

For all the talk of a new manager bringing a better style of play and potentially even better results, a quick reminder is needed of Manuel Pellegrini’s time in charge.
Moyes will not necessarily stay on until the end of that new deal, and a poor run of results at any stage will see his job come under threat.
For now, though, it provides some stability and is a deserved reward for what he has achieved so far.
