Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth shares update on David Moyes replacement at West Ham United

Dharmesh Sheth expects West Ham to appoint a head coach, rather than a manager, once they part company with David Moyes.

Moyes eased some of the pressure he has found himself under of late with back-to-back wins over Olympiacos and Nottingham Forest last week.

The Scotsman is out of contract at the end of the season, however, and there are suggestions he could move on [The Sun, 11 November].

Sky Sports reporter Sheth has now provided GIVEMESPORT [12 November] with an update on the behind-the-scenes situation at West Ham.

“If he is not to remain at West Ham United, I would expect the next manager to come in to be more of the head coach, and probably less control over the recruitment than Moyes has enjoyed over the past few years,” Sheth said.

“But I think that that would be a particular kind of manager who would be used to working in that situation whereby they have a technical director who picks the players, and the main role for the boss is not managing, but rather is the coaching. So they would effectively be the head coach rather than the manager.

“So I would expect that to be the next kind of appointment because we’ve said this many times, it’s so much easier to dismiss a manager rather than get rid of 10 players who are on long-term contracts.”

Back on track

A week is a long time in football. Moyes was under real pressure seven days ago on the back of the 3-2 loss at Brentford, but he can breathe easily again following wins over Olympiacos and Forest.

If the opening few months of the season have taught us anything, though, it is that a couple of bad results will see supporters turn on the veteran boss once again.

That seems very harsh on the face of it as the Hammers are in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup and are on course to reach the Europa League knockouts.

There is a massive month ahead for Moyes as United can continue their progression in both of those competitions, while also hopefully climbing the Premier League.

All Moyes can do for now is keep this upturn in form going to ensure there is harmony both on and off the field.
