Kevin Nolan makes admission on David Moyes future at West Ham United amid fresh sack talk

Kevin Nolan admits it is an unfortunate part of modern-day football that there is talk of David Moyes being under pressure at West Ham.

United have won just one of their past seven Premier League games, losing each of the past three, leading to questions over Moyes’ future.

According to Claret & Hugh [11 November], defeat to Nottingham Forest this weekend could spell “disaster” for the Scotsman.

However, first-team coach Nolan has put West Ham’s form in some perspective as he defended manager Moyes.

“The boss is is in the last year of his contract,” Nolan said on BBC 5 Live’s Friday Football Social [10 November]. “After the Conference League final there was a lot of speculation that he was leaving – is he going, staying?

“We’ve literally had a couple of bad games and it’s like ‘yeah, we need to bring someone else in.’ Is that the right thing? I think it’s probably the most stabilised the club’s been in a long, long time.

“What we’re doing at the minute is really good for the club. We’re fighting on all fronts – quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup, top of our group in the Europa League, we’ve lost one in 18 in Europe.

“It baffles me, but what I will say is the boss has a thick skin because he continues to work and try to get better and make us better. It does baffle me but unfortunately that’s modern day football.”

Harsh

Nolan is right to put West Ham’s results this season in some perspective, as the Irons remain on course for yet more silverware on multiple fronts.

Ultimately, though, United have struggled for any sort of consistency in the Premier League over the past couple of months now.

Four points from a possible 21 is a terrible return and has seen the club slide down the table, now into the bottom half.

West Ham

However, in all this is must be remembered that Moyes succeeded where so many others have failed in winning a trophy last season.

The 60-year-old is only under contract until the end of the campaign, and it would be extremely harsh to not let him see out this season.

Moyes just needs to ensure Sunday’s (12 November) clash with Forest ends in victory so that these rumours die down over the two-week break.

In other West Ham news, Gary Neville was left surprised by Ian Wright’s score prediction for the game with Forest.
