West Ham United: Paul Brown shares David Moyes sack verdict amid ‘tension’ with Tim Steidten

Journalist Paul Brown says there has “been some tension” between David Moyes and Tim Steidten behind the scenes, but does not believe the West Ham manager’s job is under immediate threat.

A poor run of Premier League form has led to fresh questions being raised over the future of Moyes, who is due to be out of contract at the London Stadium next summer.

However, speaking to GIVEMESPORT [9 November], Brown suggested the Scotsman’s future may ultimately be determined by how he gets on with Steidten moving forward.

“I don’t think Moyes’ position is under threat because of their recent form,” Brown said. “I think that the club are fairly confident that he’ll be able to turn that around.

“The issue comes in which direction the club wants to go in, in the transfer market. There does seem to have been some tension between him and Steidten over signings.

“You have to say that the signings that Moyes pushed for and got have worked out and have been a big success.

“And I think some of the signings that Steidten pushed for and got have been a big success too, so you can argue that it’s working. It depends on how well the two work together behind the scenes, that’s the big unknown.”

Uncertainty

This “tension” mooted by Jones is nothing new, given it was a hot topic of debate throughout the summer transfer window.

However, the pair may well be on a collision course as we approach the January window, with the pair perhaps not agreeing on certain targets.

All that said, the Irons had a successful summer transfer window, regardless of who pushed for each of those deals to go through.

Everyone behind the scenes at the London Stadium must start singing off the same hymn sheet, but Moyes’ uncertain future makes that difficult.

As technical director, it is Steidten’s job to ensure any signings fit the club, rather than the manager.

Any signings made by Moyes in January, for example, could find themselves playing under a different manager five months later.

For now, it is looking increasingly likely that Moyes will see out the campaign, but results need to pick up quickly if he is to stay on any longer.
