West Ham United source shares when final decision on David Moyes future will be made

West Ham have not made a decision on the future of manager David Moyes and will not do so until later in the season, a source has told Claret & Hugh.

The West Ham news outlet shared the update on its website on Wednesday (15 November) after Daily Mail reporter Sami Mokbel claimed Moyes is set to leave in the summer.

Moyes is due to be out of contract at London Stadium at the end of the campaign, but nobody at the club yet knows if the Scotsman will stay on longer.

A report by Hugh Southon read: “In a story online their chief football reporter Sami Mokbel claims that he is now expected to leave in the summer despite previously ‘turning the narrative around’ at the club.

“However, according to our top source inside the club that is untrue and he claimed that it was surely well known that the board had backed him throughout the speculation upon him from fans.”

The source added: “Nothing has been decided. Later in the season we’ll sit down with the manager and decide what works for him and the club.”

Decision needed soon

The uncertainty surrounding Moyes’ future is nothing new and will not go away until a decision is made one way or the other.

You are only as good as your most recent result, as the saying goes, and the win over Nottingham Forest did Moyes a whole lot of good in that regard.

Had West Ham entered this two-week break on the back of another disappointing Premier League result, the former Manchester United manager would have been under pressure once again.

As it is, though, the Irons are ticking along fairly nicely all things considered, as they are well positioned in the EFL Cup, Europa League and indeed the Premier League.

Sacking Moyes before the season is over would be incredibly harsh on the basis of what he has achieved for the club, but the question does still remain: will he stay on beyond that?

And put simply, the club cannot let that question drag on into the final throes of the season, with a long-term plan needing to be put in place right now.

In other West Ham news, a key figure at the club will now reportedly get involved in contract talks with a player.
