West Ham United: Alex Crook shares why David Moyes should be annoyed at David Sullivan

Alex Crook believes David Moyes has every right to be “annoyed” at the West Ham board for not already awarding him a new contract.

The Scotsman’s deal is due to expire at the end of the campaign and there are now serious doubts over his future following recent results.

Widespread reports suggested in December that he was on the verge of penning a two-and-a-half-year deal, but nothing came of that.

Speaking on talkSPORT’s Premier League All Access podcast [12 February, 12m 58s], Crook said: “It was a surprise they didn’t give him a new deal after winning a European trophy.

“If I was David Moyes, I’d have been quite annoyed by that. I remember in December, the vibes were that there was a two-and-a-half-year deal in place just waiting to be signed.

“But more results like Sunday, the less likely that is to happen. There are problems at West Ham. Moyes and Tim Steidten are not aligned and are regularly butting heads over transfer targets.”

David Moyes’ future at West Ham massively uncertain

It is clear that all is not well between transfer chief Steidten and manager Moyes, but decent results in the first half of the campaign papered over that.

The Irons’ summer transfer business was pretty much spot on, too. However, the less said about the January window the better as the squad is arguably weaker than it was a month ago.

That has coincided with a seven-game winless streak on the field, most recently going down 6-0 at home to Arsenal on Sunday (11 February) in what will hopefully be the nadir.

Tim Steidten has focused heavily on the Brazilian market in recent weeks

Had Moyes penned his contract extension in December, around the time of the back-to-back wins over Manchester United and Arsenal, those against the decision would have been outnumbered by those in favour.

As it is, there have been far too many terrible results over the past couple of months, having also lost heavily to Fulham and Liverpool.

Moyes could desperately do with a winning run to help turn the tide in his favour, but after what we saw at the weekend, do not hold your breath.
