West Ham United news as Jarrod Bowen injury update emerges at the London Stadium

West Ham have received a “major” boost with Jarrod Bowen pushing to return from his injury for the clash against Sheffield United, according to The Standard.

The newspaper reported via its website on 16 January that, despite initial fears, that Bowen could face months on the sidelines, he could make a surprise return to David Moyes’ squad.

He has been ruled out of the FA Cup clash with Bristol City at Aston Gate after suffering a blow to his ankle in the 1-1 draw between the two clubs, but new optimism has now emerged.

Huge news for the Hammers

With Lucas Paqueta ruled out for up to two months, Michail Antonio facing yet another injury setback, and Mohammed Kudus taking part in the Africa Cup of Nations, West Ham needed a boost in their attacking ranks.

Fears over the potential severity of Bowen’s blow were high given the swelling around his ankle as he limped off in the 1-1 draw with Bristol City at the London Stadium, but news that he could now return as soon as 21 January will be a huge boost to the Hammers.

The news could also have potential ramifications in the January transfer window, as the injury situation at the London Stadium had caused panic at the club as they scramble to find reinforcements for the injury crisis in attacking areas.

Now, though, with Bowen’s return, some calm can be restored, and while incoming players are still necessary in East London, the element of desperation can fade. It could also mean exit-linked players such as Danny Ings could now be allowed to depart.
