West Ham United: Neil Lennon reacts to Jarrod Bowen footage as ‘major worry’ emerges v Wolves

Neil Lennon has reacted to Jarrod Bowen’s injury as the West Ham star was forced off the pitch during a 2-1 victory against Wolves on Saturday (6 April).

Hammers fans will have been watching through their hands as one of their star attackers was replaced by Aaron Cresswell after just 54 minutes.

With an upcoming Europa League clash with Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday 11 April, David Moyes will be hoping that Bowen’s injury is not as serious as first feared.

Speaking live via Sky Sports on Saturday (6 April, 4:08pm), Lennon said: “Bowen’s lying down on the ground – he clashed with Gomes. It looked pretty innocuous but I think he’s hurt his rib. He’s been down for two or three minutes.

“Obviously, with Bayer Leverkusen on the horizon, this is going to be a major worry for West Ham. He’s looking gingerly at the minute. We’ll have to wait and see if Bowen can continue – it’s not looking good.”

Jarrod Bowen injury a massive blow for West Ham United

An injury for Bowen could be catastrophic for the Hammers, who are still targeting a top-six finish in the Premier League and hoping to advance in the Europa Conference League.

Xavi Alonso’s Leverkusen are currently the most in-form team in Europe’s top five divisions, having not lost a single match since the season began. An injury blow to Bowen would make an already-difficult fixture even harder.

The 27-year-old is, arguably, the most important player at the London Stadium, boasting 19 goals and eight assists in all competitions, winning multiple matches single-handedly.

Of course, Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus are also extremely important for the Hammers in attack, but Bowen is the most dangerous out of the forwards at West Ham and Moyes will be very worried.

With the injury appearing to be on the top half of his body, that will give hope that Bowen will be able to recover much easier than if it were a muscle issue.

Only time will tell how serious the situation regarding West Ham’s top goalscorer is. Fans will be hoping any update comes sooner rather than later.
