West Ham United: Nayef Aguerd has slim chance of playing for Morocco v France

Nayef Aguerd has a slim chance of being able to play when the West Ham ace’s Morocco side take on France in the World Cup semi-final, according to L’Equipe.

The 25-year-old hobbled off in the African side’s round of 16 clash with Spain, which they won on penalties, and missed the 1-0 quarter-final triumph against Portugal.

It had been thought that his tournament would be over having started all four matches prior to the last eight but there is now a small chance that he could play some part against reigning world champions France.

West Ham

“Morocco maintains a cleverly worked vagueness on its injured, whether Nayef Aguerd or Romain Saïss. Being very careful, we can think that one of the two will be forfeited at this stage, and if they play, they will be clearly diminished,” L’Equipe wrote [12 December, 11:00am].

Huge risk

The very last thing David Moyes and West Ham United would want is for Aguerd to be put at risk of aggravating his groin strain further and that could be a nightmare for the Hammers.

Aguerd has already spent the majority of the season out injured at the London Stadium and the very last thing he will want is to miss even more league matches.

Although, this is a World Cup semi-final. Something he may have thought he never would have played with Morocco being the first African nation to reach that stage.

Aguerd will be absolutely desperate to play in that game and there is nothing West Ham can do to try and stop him but it may be too soon to even be in the squad.

Every finger will be crossed at Rush Green that he does not play in the semi-final and that he can return to England with his injury on the mend and not getting worse by the day.
