West Ham United must now accelerate Thomas Tuchel plans after Barcelona update emerges

James Murray is a lifelong West Ham fan and a current season ticket holder in the Billy Bonds Stand. He’s seen some incredible talents – as well as several forgettable names – don the famous claret and blue shirt since his first game 25 years ago. He’s now putting his passion for West Ham into words with a regular fan view for West Ham Zone…

West Ham must make steps to bring in Thomas Tuchel now.

There has been plenty of speculation around the future of David Moyes over the past few weeks and it’s starting to look increasingly unlikely that he will remain at the London Stadium beyond this season.

While the Hammers boss does still have credit in the bank with some fans and members of the board, patience is wearing thin after the recent results.

The 6-0 defeat to Arsenal was a complete and utter embarrassment as we thought those days were behind us.

That was backed up by a 2-0 loss at struggling Nottingham Forest, where a section of the away supporters made their feelings known that they want to see the back of the manager as “Moyes Out” banners were spotted.

Question marks over West Ham future under David Moyes

I am fully aware that this is probably the most stable the club has been in my lifetime, having watched us win the Europa Conference League and qualify for Europe three years in a row.

But it’s just gone a bit stale lately, hasn’t it? I’m not a fan of the sack culture that has made its way into the sport, but it’s been tough to watch us play for large parts of this campaign.

I want to be entertained. I want our players to get me off my seat. But that hasn’t happened for a while.

I don’t believe Moyes should be relieved of his duties now as he has done an awful lot for this club over the past few years and does deserve better than that.

I am very much leaning towards not renewing his contract at the end of this campaign, though, as there are big question marks over how he can take us to the next level.

After all, that was what we were promised when we left Upton Park for the London Stadium.

Thomas Tuchel could be the man for West Ham

One man that could potentially deliver on that is Tuchel after it’s emerged that he will be leaving Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

Having previously done a good job at Chelsea, where he won the Champions League before being harshly sacked to make way for Graham Potter, he knows what the Premier League is all about.

The German could perhaps work well alongside his compatriot Tim Steidten, too, as the Hammers’ technical director looks to transform the way we do business in the transfer market.

talkSPORT reported on its website on Tuesday (20 February) that the 50-year-old is among the names being considered and that he could be persuaded into becoming the new boss at the London Stadium.

But we may face some competition for his services after Florian Plettenberg reported on Wednesday (21 February) that he is on the list of potential candidates at Barcelona to replace Xavi in the summer.

He added that Tuchel is “very open” to the prospect of a move to the La Liga giants, but he also revealed that a move back to the Premier League isn’t out of the question.

That means that if the German is to be our man, then we must make Moyes’s position clear and start putting the wheels in motion now for that deal to happen.

It wouldn’t be nice for the Scotsman to see out the season knowing his time is coming to an end, but perhaps it could the motivation he needs to get the players moving in the right direction again and to cement his legacy in East London.

The fact of the matter is that Tuchel could be too good of an opportunity to miss out on if we really want to establish ourselves as a club that really means business.
