West Ham United must move quickly to seal Giorgi Mamardashvili transfer as Fabrizio Romano drops news on Valencia future

Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is expected to leave with three Premier League clubs interested, according to Fabrizio Romano and West Ham United must move quickly to secure his signature.

The Georgian goalkeeper has been one of the standout performers for the La Liga outfit this season as they battle against relegation and the Hammers have been previously linked with his services.

Spanish outlet Diario AS on 5 April revealed that the talented goalkeeper is “on the radar” of West Ham United this summer with club scouts travelling to watch him play several times this season.

And reliable transfer guru Romano dropped an update on his personal Twitter account on Monday [17 April] regarding the goalkeeper’s future.

He tweeted: “Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, expected to leave Valencia in any case at the end of the season despite contract extension signed few months ago.

“Told Chelsea and Tottenham are just monitoring his development; Leicester met with his agent 10 days ago.”

Spanish media outlet Fichajes.net claimed on 6 April that Valencia would be willing to sell the shot-stopper amid their financial troubles if a bid of around £35m was received despite his astronomical £85.7m release clause and the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham will certainly be jumping at the chance to sign him given the huge financial opportunity.

However, the Hammers may not be willing to pass up on this opportunity also and if they are to beat their London rivals to Mamardashvili’s services, they must show their intent and move quickly to secure his signature.

Polish international Lukasz Fabianski won’t be at the London Stadium long which means the Hammers must swiftly have a contingency plan in place to replace him, and the 22-year-old Georgian goalkeeper is the perfect and more attractive option.

Mamardashvili has been in fine form in La Liga this season and the fact that the likes of Chelsea and Inter Milan are interested in his services speaks volumes of his sky-high potential.

West Ham

Despite Valencia currently fearing for their future in La Liga, the towering ace has done his utmost to try and keep the club in the top flight, having already made 82 saves in the league this season, just two more than Fabianski’s tally (80), as per SofaScore.

He also appears far more ready to spring off his line in order to deny an opponent as he ranks in the top 18% [FBRef} among his European peers for an average distance of defensive actions – meaning the distance from goal of all defensive actions – considerably more than Fabianski who ranks low amongst goalkeepers for that particular metric.

With that said, it’s interesting to note that the Hammers are keeping tabs on another top young talent in the goalkeeper position and he arguably represents the perfect long-term replacement for Fabianski. A no-brainer move.
