West Ham United must make January decision on Armstrong Okoflex

Armstrong Okoflex’s summer move to Swansea City has really not worked out the way West Ham United would’ve hoped for.

The exciting winger tore it up in the 2021/22 season for the Hammers’ under-21s side, scoring 12 goals and registered two assists.

That earnt the 20-year-old his first loan move away from the London Stadium to Swansea City, but it’s safe to say things aren’t going to plan for the former Celtic youngster.

He has played just 90 minutes of Championship football so far in the 2022/23 season, having been used mainly as a substitute by Russell Martin. During an important stage in his development, the youngster has to be featuring more regularly, and the Hammers have a huge decision to make come January.

Okoflex’s contract is up in the summer of 2023 and he has yet to be given a proper first-team chance by David Moyes. The Hammers have three decisions which they could make when it comes to the youngster.

They could let him continue his loan spell in South Wales and hope he sees more gametime and in turn an uptick in his current form. At present, this doesn’t seem like the best move for him.

West Ham could instead look to recall the winger and look to send him out on loan to a lesser Championship side, where he would see more game time or at top end League One club.

The final option would be to recall the winger and look to find a permanent exit, with the 20-year-old unlikely to make an impact for Moyes’ first eleven. Okoflex is in a crucial stage of his development and simply has to deliver during the second half of the season if he wants to earn himself a new deal at West Ham United.

He certainly faces an uncertain future up until the January window opens.
