West Ham United must avoid being roped into Everton deal for Michael Keane

West Ham United must avoid being roped into a Michael Keane deal after journalist Dean Jones linked the club with a move for the defender due to a lack of “money” to spend in the area.

This would be foolish from a West Ham standpoint, why make a move for an ageing defender just because you have limited spending to make on the team’s defence?

Jones admitted a move for Keane “makes sense” because of the lack of money the Hammers have to spend on their defence but this is a transfer trap worth avoiding.

“They don’t have loads of money to spend for this area of the team. I guess it makes sense being linked to people like Michael Keane,” said the journalist to GIVEMESPORT on 29 November 2022.

Now, this isn’t to say Keane isn’t an accomplished defender in the Premier League, but signing someone on the basis of not having a lot of money to spend is ridiculous.

Backwards signing.

It’s transfer dealings like this that can get the club and team in unneeded trouble, the old long contracts handed out to players at the end of their careers scenario springs to mind here.

Fans would much rather see Moyes wait it out for a defender he actually wants, rather than putting a Keane plaster over the West Ham wound that doesn’t need healing.

This rumoured transfer screams panic in the transfer dealings room and it’s really an unnecessary one to make right now.

In a time when the Hammers have made progressive signings like Lucas Paqueta and Gianluca Scamacca, the signing of Keane would be reminiscent of the dark ages at the club.

The 29-year-old offers little to nothing than what West Ham United already have in their ranks and he definitely doesn’t suit Moyes’ possession-based tactics.

Fans can probably all agree that this isn’t the signing to make and if the Irons were to panic buy on a defender, there are certainly better options on the market to do so.
