West Ham United move on the cards for Roland Sallai, £17.6m needed for Freiburg forward
West Ham are one of the clubs vying for the signature of Freiburg forward Roland Sallai in the January window, as reported by journalist Bence Bocsak.
A host of clubs including Lazio, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Sevilla and Fiorentina could also be the Hungary international’s possible next destination.
Freiburg at looking at a fee of around £17.6million for the 25-year-old, who scored twice against England in the UEFA Nations League on 14 June 2022.
The attacking midfielder has recently switched agencies, and he is ready to leave the club.
“Many clubs are interested in Roland Sallai (25) in January. He switched agencies recently and is open to a move,” wrote Bocsak, who’s written for the Guardian, World Soccer Magazine and Goal.
“Lazio, Wolverhampton, West Ham, Sevilla and Fiorentina are all possible destinations.
“He has four goals and assists in his last four Hungary caps. Freiburg want €20m (£17.6m).”
Unlikely
Sallai has managed only five starts in Bundesliga this season, and he is yet to open his scoring account.
He is a versatile forward who can play as a striker or in attacking midfield areas.
The January window could get interesting for West Ham if David Moyes can ship out one or two players.
The Hammers are well-stocked in their attacking midfield region, and it will be interesting to see if they sign any new players.

Having said that, the Hammers could be willing to ship out underperforming players like Manuel Lanzini and Pablo Fornals if there are offers for them.
Interestingly, Sallai’s numbers are not that impressive, and the price quoted for him looks excessive as well. The Hammers should look for other options at that price range.
West Ham spent heavily in the summer transfer window, and they are unlikely to spend big again in the winter. Moyes should look to get the best out of the players he has at his disposal, and a move for Sallai looks unlikely.
