West Ham United move for Lucas Paqueta could accelerate rapidly

West Ham United’s pursuit of Lyon midfielder Lucas Paqueta could move very quickly, according to Dean Jones via Give Me Sport.

The 24-year-old has been offered to every club in the Premier League but it is the Hammers who are currently leading the way in terms of discussions with both the player and club.

One bid has already been rejected by the Ligue 1 outfit but another could soon be submitted as David Moyes looks to strengthen his side further before the transfer deadline.

This one could move quite quickly,” Jones said. “As it stands, it seems like West Ham are going to make another offer for Paqueta and they’re in a good position here because they’re the only club in live talks over the player.

“He’s obviously been rumoured to be joining other clubs but if anyone else comes in they’re going to have to play catch up at this point because West Ham are already quite far down the line.

“At the moment, I would say they will win the race, but we’ve seen this before. West Ham struggle to achieve the valuation that other clubs have on players, so let’s see whether this one ends up going that way too.”

19 of the 20 Premier League teams have scored so far this season and it is Moyes’ Irons who are yet to find the net in the top flight despite the mega-money signing of Gianluca Scamacca from Sassuolo.

The tall Italian international, along with Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen, haven’t lost their goal-scoring touch but they just aren’t getting the chances made for them by the midfield and full-backs.

One major problem area has been the attacking midfield where Said Benrahma, Manuel Lanzini and Pablo Fornals have all failed to nail down their spot in the side and Moyes has had enough.

Paqueta would take the West Ham attack to another level entirely and finally unlock that final piece of the jigsaw that could allow an extremely dangerous front four.

Something has to be done though because the Irons can’t expect to drag themselves out of the relegation zone if they don’t start putting the ball into the opposition’s net.
