West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paqueta set for meeting while agreement claim emerges with Manchester City

West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta, who’s linked with Manchester City was due for a meeting with the Football Association, according to Sami Mokbel.

The Daily Mail journalist reported that the meeting was scheduled for Monday (21 August) to discuss his alleged betting offences which has now been postponed.

It’s understood that the Hammers have already agreed a fee with the Citizens over the sale of the 25-year-old Brazil international.

Via Twitter, Mokbel wrote, “The FA grant West Ham request to postpone Lucas Paqueta’s formal interview amid betting investigation. Paqueta was due to speak to FA today. Also, West Ham and Man City had agreed a fee in-principle for Paqueta to leave before FA confirmed probe.”

Clarity needed

City are obviously going to want clarity before they decide whether or not to go ahead with the Paqueta transfer.

Personal terms will definitely not be an issue as he wants the move and is going to be a first-team player even though his game time might reduce.

However, if there is an imminent ban, signing him would not make sense as he could miss months of action depending on the severity.

West Ham

West Ham want to keep him but the fact that they’ve agreed on a fee means that they’ve accepted he’s going to leave.

These allegations may actually keep him at the club as it will delay any processes involving his potential London Stadium exit.

The next few days will be key as everyone involved in this would want a quick resolution one way or another.

In other West Ham news, the club have now opened advanced talks with a Premier League player who appears to be open on leaving his side this summer.
