West Ham United: Micah Richards waxes lyrical over David Moyes after ‘personal conversation’
West Ham manager David Moyes doesn’t always get the appreciation he deserves, according to Micah Richards.
The verdict comes after the former Manchester City defender sat next to the Hammers boss as England took on Brazil on Saturday (23 March).
Both Lucas Paqueta and Jarrod Bowen played in the international friendly at Wembley, which the visitors won 1-0.
“I feel as though he doesn’t always get the appreciation he actually deserves, in terms of, obviously, West Ham not winning something for so long, and then he comes and wins, and now the expectation is different,” Richards said on The Rest Is Football podcast (10mins 12secs, 25 March).
“I don’t want to go into what we were talking about tactically because it was a personal conversation, but it was great to see his knowledge of the game while basically just wanting his players to come off the pitch, he wanted them ready for the rest of the season. His wisdom within the game was brilliant to hear.”
David Moyes definitely needs more respect at West Ham
It is, of course, only a certain section of Hammers fans who have disrespected their manager in recent times, with a “Moyes Out” banner surfacing recently.
But others very much appreciate the job he has done at the London Stadium, with the Scot guiding the club to Europa Conference League glory last season.
He has also helped them to many impressive Premier League finishes, with another one on the cards this time around.
The London Stadium club currently occupy seventh place in the league table, and are into the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
The current campaign epitomises the superb job he has done at West Ham, but his future does remain up in the air.
With the manager’s contract set to expire this summer, it remains to be seen if Moyes will be in the Hammers dugout this time next year.
For now, all he can do is continue the club’s strong showing domestically and in Europe, with fans dreaming of more silverware this time around.
