West Ham United may need to pay ‘premium’ price to sign Jakub Kiwior

West Ham may need to pay a “premium” price to sign Spezia defender Jakub Kiwior, according to Dean Jones.

The defender has impressed in the World Cup for Poland, and Jones, the former Bleacher Report journalist, shares that the Hammers are keen to sign him.

Spezia could try and add more to Kiwior’s value in January after his brilliant performance for Poland, and the Hammers just need to “temper the numbers” to get the deal done.

“I’m sure Spezia will try to add some sort of premium on the back of the World Cup,” said Jones to GiveMeSport.

“The negotiation will be there to be had. West Ham will just need to try and temper the numbers there and maybe even act like they’re not interested and then go back for him, because I know he’s somebody they have been keen on.”

La Nazione reported on 6 December that the likes of AC Milan, Napoli, Rome and Juventus are all keen to sign him along with the Hammers, but Spezia have inflated the player’s asking price.

Milan Live (29 November) reported that the Irons have already made a £13m bid for the defender, but it won’t be enough to lure him away.

Spezia are looking at a fee of around £17m for the centre-back, and it remains to be seen if the Hammers make another offer for him in January.

West Ham

The Hammers probably need to sign a new defender in January after Kurt Zouma is out for the foreseeable future.

The French defender has undergone knee surgery while Craig Dawson faces an uncertain future with the 32-year-old looking to move back up north to be closer to his family.

Angelo Ogbonna has hardly played this season and he is likely to leave next summer. After Nayef Aguerd and Thilo Kehrer, the Hammers are light defensively, and a new addition could be useful.
