West Ham United manager update emerges after what journalist heard about Ruben Amorim
Sami Mokbel has claimed the possibility of Ruben Amorim being appointed at West Ham this summer is a “virtual non-starter” given the Hammers’ financial position.
The Daily Mail journalist explained that Amorim’s demands would be beyond what the Hammers are willing to pay, while Sporting would also want a big fee.
He also explained that it is “very likely” that they will be looking for a new manager despite there having been no confirmation over David Moyes’ future at the club.
Speaking on the JDS Podcast [1 May], Mokbel shared: “It’s my understanding that West Ham are very, very, very likely to be looking for a new manager.
“I just don’t think a club of their level in terms of their finances would be able to afford how much Amorim would want or how much Sporting would need. There was something about those talks with West Ham that didn’t stack up.
“When that story broke, I made a call to somebody I trust and he said ‘The Amorim story, I’m sure West Ham would be interested, but the finances and other factors would make that a virtual non-starter.'”
Ruben Amorim seemingly out of running as West Ham manager
Rumours have been flying recently about who will take over from Moyes if he is to leave the London Stadium this summer, with Amorim one of the most notable names after a meeting took place with David Sullivan.
Mokbel was also sceptical of the reports about the meeting, suggesting that they didn’t stack up, which would match the rumours that Amorim was using the Irons’ interest to force Liverpool’s hand – something which did not pay off.
Another boss who has been heavily linked with the job is former Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui, who now appears to be the number-one target despite links with a possible switch to AC Milan, although the Hammers have stronger financial backing.

Moyes is not expected to make an official decision about his future until the end of the season, but given the extensive links with several high-profile managers, it has become clear that the Hammers board are assessing their options.
