West Ham United make transfer decision on Spezia defender Jakub Kiwior

West Ham United have decided not to pursue a deal to sign Spezia’s Polish defender Jakub Kiwior, according to Football London.

The 22-year-old only joined the Serie A side last summer from Zilina but has impressed in his debut season for the club and the Hammers were thought to be interested in signing him.

In fact, Calcio Mercato reported on 14 August that the Irons had made a bid worth £8.4million to try and sign Kiwior but Spezia turned it down very quickly.

Football London now report that there is no longer any interest from the side of West Ham in any kind of deal with Paris Saint-Germain’s Thilo Kehrer much higher on the list.

The withdrawal from the race from West Ham therefore leaves the door dully open for Italian champions AC Milan who, obviously, had a much closer look at Kiwior last season and are maintaining their pursuit.

Value in the market

Football clubs can sometimes be guilty of avoiding the cheaper transfers because they want to make a big statement and spend huge money on a marquee signing.

Kiwior was never going to be the biggest of summer signings if he came to the London Stadium but David Moyes will find it tough to find a player to do the job he would’ve been asked to do for cheaper.

West Ham

Kehrer is going to cost nearly twice the amount the Polish international could have been available for and he probably won’t play all that often once Nayef Aguer returns from injury to partner Kurt Zouma at the back.

Craig Dawson is also in the conversation to start once he gains fitness so there are tough nuts to crack just to make it to the starting XI and then he would have to keep it too.

Kiwior could have arrived knowing he is a backup to begin with and been happy to take a backseat but Kehrer won’t be as accommodating which makes this decision a worrying one for West Ham.
