West Ham United make Jarrod Bowen announcement

West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen has been called up to the England squad ahead of the November international break.

The 27-year-old winger was not part of Lee Carsley’s initial 26-man squad, being left out of the attack for wingers Anthony Gordon, Jack Grealish, Noni Madueke and Bukayo Saka.

Bowen was also not part of the England squad for the last international break in October, missing defeats to Greece and Finland, but has now been called back up after a number of key injuries.

The Hammers confirmed the news via their official X account [11 November], with the Three Lions set to take on Greece and Ireland in the Nations League under Carsley’s leadership for the final time.

West Ham United captain Jarrod Bowen earns England call-up

Bowen only has 12 England caps to his name despite playing a starring role in the Premier League over the last five seasons, deservedly earning his role as the Hammers captain this term.

It is no secret that the Hammers’ form has dropped completely over the last few months, now at an all-time low under Julen Lopetegui but it seems unfair to punish Bowen for that.

Even with the Irons being fourteenth in the Premier League table, the 27-year-old still has three goals and two assists under his belt, adding to his 16 goals and six assists in the league from last term.

With Phil Foden, Grealish, Cole Palmer and Saka all unavailable for this international break, Bowen has been called up by Carsley and should give him an opportunity to rediscover his form.

The worst thing for Lopetegui right now would be if Bowen were to return to the London Stadium with an injury, but given how unlikely it is that he features in the starting XI, it is not a major concern.
