West Ham United make contact to appoint new manager in David Moyes exit update

West Ham United have made contact with Graham Potter and Julen Lopetegui to replace David Moyes in the last hours, according to Sebastian Vidal.

Writing on his personal Twitter account (21 February), the London World weekend editor reports that the Hammers have moved to hold talks with current free agents Potter and Lopetegui ahead of coming in at the London Stadium next season.

Moyes is out of contract in the summer and is under increasing pressure after eight games without a win, with some suggestions he could leave before then if results continue to falter.

“Graham Potter and Lopetegui have been contacted over the last few hours by West Ham,” he wrote.

“Contact has been made to sound out the two coaches. The club wants to anticipate and get work underway in case David Moyes leaves in the coming weeks.”

Writing on the wall for David Moyes at West Ham?

There is said to have been little change in the club’s stance so far towards Moyes, with the club keen to not rush into a decision.

But the fans have turned on the manager, and Moyes himself has also now started to fire back in public too which suggests that the relationship can’t be repaired either.

Plenty of managers are going to be linked to the role if he is to end up leaving, with Thomas Tuchel also said to be one of the targets for Tim Steidten.

However we have seen that will be difficult to do considering he is coming from Bayern Munich and having previously won titles at the highest level.

But it won’t be easy to do, and West Ham will have to have plenty of alternative options. They’ve started making their moves for Potter and Lopetegui now, so surely the writing is on the wall for Moyes at this point.
