West Ham United make clear-cut Jesse Lingard decision after confirmed Premier League squad news

West Ham have made a hugely impressive start to the new Premier League season, and will look to continue their unbeaten run for as long as possible.

Unfortunately for the Hammers, next up is a tough test against league leaders and defending champions Manchester City, who travel to the London Stadium on Saturday (16 September).

But the hosts will undoubtedly be relying on their tight-knit group once again in East London, having already overcome Chelsea there not so long ago.

The tight-knit group could, however, grow a little bit in the coming weeks, with former loanee Jesse Lingard currently training with his old club, according to BBC Sport (14 September).

That training could turn into a deal for the player in the near future, a decision that the Hammers have seemingly already made after they left one space in their Premier League squad for the first half of the season.

As per the official West Ham website (14 September), the club have named a 24-man squad, one short of the 25 available spots.

The Hammers added: “Changes can be made to the Premier League squad list during the January transfer window, and clubs who have not filled all 25 places may sign and register free agents who are without a club at any time, subject to Premier League approval.”

They may, of course, have their eye on another free agent, given how there are plenty out there, but it seems more than likely that it will be Lingard who fills the final space.

In other West Ham news, a journalist has shared a “surprise” Hammers top-four verdict as a “define the narrative” claim is made.
