West Ham United make approach to sign Wolves striker Sasa Kalajdzic as Molineux exit decision made

West Ham have made an approach to enquire about Wolves’ Sasa Kalajdzic with the Midlands club open to loaning the striker out, according to Sport1.

The German news outlet reported [28 December] that multiple Bundesliga clubs have joined the Hammers and Fulham in keeping tabs on 19-times Austria international, with Wolves considering a six-month loan for the 26-year-old.

The forward has found it difficult to get into the starting XI ahead of Matheus Cunha and Hee-Chan Hwang, with Pedro Neto still yet to return to full fitness.

However, it is understood that Kalajdzic has his eyes set on EURO 2024 in Germany but will need more minutes on the pitch if he is to impress Austrian coach Ralf Rangnick and be awarded with a spot in the squad.

The Hammers were linked with a move for the striker in the summer of 2022 before he was eventually signed by Wolves, according to Daily Mirror’s Ryan Taylor.

A deal for all parties

West Ham’s current striker situation could offer Kalajdzic the perfect solution to his worries. And the striker could be the perfect solution to David Moyes’ lack of an out-and-out striker in the team.

Michail Antonio’s age and recent injury history are worries ahead of a busy 2023/24 season, while Danny Ings has proven not to be good enough for football at London Stadium.

The Hammers have been linked with several strikers with the January transfer window on the horizon but Moyes would prefer a player with Premier League experience, steering him away from the likes of Serhou Guirassy and toward Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke and the Wolves man.

It has been a rough start to Kalajdzic’s Wolves career since signing from VfB Stuttgart in August 2022, suffering a long-term injury that has kept him away from the senior team for large parts of his two seasons at Molineux.

But the 6ft 7in striker has scored three goals in 13 appearances this season, scoring two of them in important Premier League victories over Everton and Bournemouth.

A six-month loan could be the best option for all parties involved, with West Ham still worrying about the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League.

In other West Ham news, the Irons may now have a clear run at signing a long-term target in the January window.
