West Ham make approach to sign Jesse Lingard on loan – Sky Sports
West Ham United have made an approach to sign Manchester United playmaker Jesse Lingard on loan until the end of the season.
Sky Sports have shared the news on their website on Monday, with no further information on whether there is an obligation to buy.
The Hammers are yet to add to their squad this month, and would also like to bring in a striker to replace Sebastien Haller who has joined Ajax.
Lingard has been frozen out at Old Trafford.
The England international was left out of the Red Devils’ squad for the FA Cup clash against Liverpool over the weekend.
It was reported by the Telegraph over the weekend that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had “reluctantly” agreed to his request to leave the club.
That report claims that Lingard is waiting on the club to give him the green light to leave Old Trafford and get football elsewhere in the Premier League.
With West Brom, Sheffield United and Fulham all reportedly interested, it appears as though the Hammers have made the first move.
The 28-year-old has only played in three competitive fixtures this season.
Lingard has yet to feature in the Premier League, and his last appearance came in the 1-0 win over Watford in the FA Cup at the beginning of this month.
Moyes would be taking a big risk bringing Lingard to the London Stadium.
The talent has been there before, but surely it would take the playmaker a significant amount of time to return to his best.
Would he get in our side ahead of the likes of Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals? It is hard for us to say yes to that, especially based on his recent record – fingers crossed Moyes can get the best out of him if this is completed.
