West Ham United lodge opening bid to sign Brazilian forward Lazaro

West Ham have made an opening offer to sign Brazilian forward Lazaro, as per Fabrizio Romano.

The Guardian journalist wrote for CaughtOffSide substack (21 August) that the Hammers have “approached Flamengo” to sign the attacking midfielder.

The Hammers have made a bid of around £6m for the 20-year-old, but it was rejected.

Romano wrote on Twitter on 20 August that the Hammers are keen on signing the player and that the negotiation between the two clubs will continue.

The Hammers could be looking to bolster their attacking midfield areas, but not many had expected the club to go for a hirtheto unknown talent from Brazil.

There have been suggestions that the Hammers could sell Said Benrahma this summer, but it seems he can earned the trust of David Moyes.

Should the Hammers go after an experienced player?

We have very little evidence about the youngster who is yet to set the Brazilian top-flight alight.

He contributed to 17 goals in all competitions in Brazil in 2022, which suggests that he is a player with strong potential.

With five substituions allowed this season, the Hammers can experiment with Lazaro, especially in cup games.

The Europa Conference league could be ideal for his development. Having said that, when you’re paying over £6m to sign a young talent, there is expectation that he will contribute to the senior side at some capacity.
