West Ham United ‘less optimistic’ in Scott McTominay pursuit as bid falls short of £45m asking price

West Ham have made a bid for Manchester United ace Scott McTominay, but it has failed to meet the £45m asking price, according to Claret and Hugh.

The publication reported on its website on Tuesday (25 July) that the Hammers are “less optimistic” that a compromise can be reached amid this latest development.

The East London club hold an interest in the 26-year-old Scotland international, who has two years left on his current contract, according to Sky Sports (17 July).

“West Ham have confirmed to Claret and Hugh they offered Chelsea £37m plus £3m of add ons for Conor Gallagher and that it has been rejected,” according to Claret and Hugh.

“The Hammers have also disclosed that a bid has been made for Scott McTominay but that too fails to meet the £45m being requested by Manchester United and West Ham insiders are less optimistic a compromise can be reached.”

Tough task

The Hammers have a really tough task on their hands in replacing midfield maestro Declan Rice, who left the East London club earlier this summer to join Premier League rivals Arsenal.

His £105million exit has given the Hammers plenty of money for new recruits, but they have so far been unlucky in their pursuit of a new midfielder.

Moves for the likes of Conor Gallagher, Joao Palhinha and James Ward-Prowse have been unsuccessful, and it seems that West Ham have been dealt a similar blow in terms of a move for McTominay.

Replacing Rice is a near-impossible task, but McTominay certainly wouldn’t be the worst player to bring in.

His no-nonsense approach would be of great use to David Moyes, while the player has added goals to his game in recent times.

The player himself should be seeking an Old Trafford exit at this stage of his career, with more minutes definitely on the cards at West Ham than at Manchester United.

In other West Ham news, Carlton Cole has dismissed rumours regarding a Hammers exit for one player live on talkSPORT.
