West Ham United ‘left-field’ option for Mauricio Pochettino as David Moyes update emerges

CBS journalist Ben Jacobs has suggested Mauricio Pochettino is a “left field” option for West Ham after the board previously considered him to replace David Moyes.

The Telegraph claimed (15 January) the Argentine was a “dream” option for the Hammers’ board as speculation grew over the Scot’s future at the London Stadium.

Despite a slight upturn in form, the CBS journalist has suggested that a move for the former Spurs boss is one to keep an eye on.

West Ham

“The only left-field option in the Premier League to keep an eye on is West Ham. David Moyes is safe for now after two encouraging draws against Newcastle and Chelsea,” wrote Jacobs (Caughtoffside, Substack, 14 February).

“But late last year, Pochettino was one of the names the West Ham board considered in case a change was necessary.”

Unlikely

West Ham have stood by Moyes when a number of Premier League clubs have sacked their managers. If they were going to make a change, then the start of the January window was the ideal time. The Hammers’ squad is far too good to go down and there have been green shoots of recovery in recent weeks.

They should’ve beaten Newcastle at St James’ Park and were a stern test for Chelsea at the London Stadium. This weekend is shaping up to be a vital one in the relegation battle. Leeds and Everton both face off at Goodison Park and if Moyes’ men can pick up a positive result against Spurs they could drag themselves away from the bottom three.

West Ham United

As for Pochettino, he’s been linked to a number of Premier League clubs in recent months and has never come close to accepting an offer. The former PSG boss clearly doesn’t to be embroiled in a relegation battle and is waiting for a more stable project to present itself.
