West Ham United learn £25million price tag for Rangers defender Calvin Bassey

West Ham will have to pay £25million for Rangers defender Calvin Bassey amid increasing interest from Premier League clubs, according to Daily Mail.

The Nigeria international has been a stalwart in Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side this season, playing a key role in their Europa League and Scottish Cup success – winning man of the match awards in both finals.

His impressive displays have not only put him on the Hammers’ radar but Steven Gerrard will be looking to exercise his Glasgow connections with Aston Villa also eyeing a summer move.

Rangers are keen on keeping hold of one of their star men ahead of next season and Bassey is said to be happy at Ibrox and in no rush to leave – only if the £25million valuation is met will the 22-year-old leave.

Potential.

This would be a real statement of intent as the Irons look to build on the momentum gained this season.

£25million seems a little bit steep for a relatively untested player but you have to consider Bassey’s quality and massive potential to improve further in the future.

At just 22 he is already bossing it in European finals and playing a key role in winning his team trophies and that takes some doing.

It would be easy to be a passenger in those types of games but the maestro seems to thrive under the pressure with it repeatedly bringing out his best displays.

It is unlikely to see West Ham splashing this much money on a defender but with Aaron Cresswell coming to the end of his peak – it is completely necessary.

Moyes will face a very tough job in persuading him to come to east London with Bassey’s former manager, Gerrard, already proving himself to have quite the pull.

The youngster is a player of serious quality who would undoubtedly improve the Hammers’ squad.
