West Ham United keep close eye on Fulham and Everton target Maxwel Cornet

West Ham are keeping a close eye on Burnley “flying machine” Maxwel Cornet, according to Alan Nixon.

The Sun journalist wrote on his Patreon (18 July) that the likes of Nottingham Forest and West Ham are “watching developments” regarding the future of Cornet.

Everton have had a bid rejected for the player, but London rivals Fulham are most keen on landing him.

Back-up option?

The 25-year-old is primarily a striker, but he has also played as a left winger and as a left wing-back last season.

Last season, he scored nine goals and provided one assist for the Clarets, but couldn’t prevent the club from getting relegated.

Nixon suggests that Burnley will accept a £5 million loan fee, “with the rest of the money paid on achievements”.

Cornet is a versatile forward, and he has a good scoring record. So, there’s definitely interest here from the Hammers.

At the same time, it looks like West Ham are only monitoring him, and they are watching his progress from a distance.

The Hammers are desperate to land a striker this summer, and they are close to reaching an agreement for Chelsea striker Armando Broja [The Telegraph].

They are also in the hunt for Jesse Lingard and Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca. In all probability, only if they fail to land their major targets, the club could think about making a move for Cornet.
